Manchi' is a small village in Soraba taluk in Shimoga district in Karnataka. There is a small idol of HANUMAN in Manchi. Though the Idol is small the importance of this idol is huge. This idol was installed by Sage VYASARAJARU. There is a puranic significance to the presence of this idol that dates back to Tretayug.

The history goes about saying that when Lord RAM, SITA, LAKSHMAN, and HANUMAN were in exile in the forest, they came to this place (Today's Manchi). Lord RAM ordered HANUMAN to get billva patra leaves to worship Lord SHIVA. HANUMAN goes into the deep forest and gets trees of billva patra leaves and water. Lord RAM worships SHIVA and after being very happy blesses HANUMAN for his service saying that the place should become a place of worship for HANUMAN devotees in the future.

In Kaliyug when Sage VYASARAJARU happened to pass through this place, he remembered the above story through his Gnaana shakti and immediately installs the idol of Lord HANUMAN and worships it with billva patra leaves. Later on, the legacy was carried on by local villagers where they worship this idol with billva patra leaves on the day of Sri RAMA NAVAMI.

Thousands of people flock to this temple to get their desires satisfied from Lord HANUMAN.Today there is a tradition followed in this temple where a group of eight people perform fasting for five days justprevious to RAMA NAVAMI and perform pooja to Lord HANUMAN. Later they go into the forest and fetch billva patra trees for pooja. Thousands of people flock from different places to watch this event every year.
