History:
350 years back, in the end of 16th century, there lived a pious devotee named 'Appannabhattaru' in Vajrabandi village near Kushtagi, Koppal district in Karnataka state. He was a great scholar in 'Tattvavichara'.
One day, the glorious Lord Mukhyapranadeva came into his dream and told that a statue is present in the Nairuti direction which is at 3 ft distance from the snakedwell under a tamarind tree. Then he woke up and everything about his dream to his friends, acharyas. Then he went on searching for that statue along with them chanting vedas. On reaching the tamarind tree Appannabhattaru found a very big stone. Then they all took the stone out and washed with holy water. There they found an image of lord Hanuman on that stone. After that they installed the idol in the same place chanting veda mantras and worshipped the deity.
Later a small temple was constructed by the devotees. Then Appannabhattaru was doing all the daily pooja activites in that temple. After some days, the image of Hanuman got embossed with much shiny appearance. One can find impressions of shankha and chakra on the upper portion and a bell and impressions of lingas and mayura vahana on the tail. There are also the impressions of swans on both the legs. After worshipping this deity for some days, Lord Adaviraaya came into Appannabhattaru's dream again and told to celebrate 'Rathotsava' every year during vaisakha shuddha navami to the Pournami. He told all the devotees about the dream and arranged for Rathotsava along with 9 days of 'Jatre' utsav with his own money. There are seva activities like Harivaana seva, dandabali and avabhritasnana.
After the demise of Sri Appannabhattaru, his son Koneribhattaru took the responsibility. Later venkataramnaachar, Bheemaachar continued the activities in the temple.
Every year many devotees approximately 5-6 thousands come to have darshan of the Lord shri Adaviraaya and seek his blessings. Marriage halls, kitchen rooms and cottages are constructed for the convenience of the devotees.
