Kengal Hanuman Temple is located at Vandaraguppe Village and is around 5 km from Channapatna. The temple is around 60 km from Bangalore.

The presiding deity Lord Hanuman is five and a half foot tall.  The great saint 'Vyasaraya' found a rock-boulder which is red in colour.  Having realized the special and very rare qualities of the rock with impression of Hanuman having mustache,  Vyasaraya installed the Hanuman idol.  This temple is called as 'Kengal Hanuman temple' because the idol was emerged from red stone (Kengal in Kannada language) for which the Chennapatna region is famous.
Prevously,  as the idol was facing north only the right eye was seen.  But now we can see both eyes as the idol is now facing east which is really a wonder.  This idol is still emerging.  This temple was built by the Karnataka's second chief minister Sri Kengal Hanumanthaiah.  His parents have worshipped this Lord before his birth.

one legend says ithat the area of the present day temple was part of a thick forest. Merchants who used to take rest during nights were often attacked by a tiger. One night the tiger carried away an ox of a merchant. Then everybody searched for it but their efforts are in vein. They thought of searching the next morning. During that night the merchants had a dream in which Hanuman assured them that the ox will be safe.  He also asked to build a temple for him in the area so that they will always be protected.

When the merchants went in search of the ox in the morning, they found it near the tiger and the ox was alive.   They also saw a huge rock there,   covered with thick bush.   They cleared the bush and saw the symbols of Lord Hanuman on the rock.
