Adoni,  Kurnool district (A.P) is a town which comprises of four places having spiritual and historical background like Vengalapura,  Mangaraya etc.

Sri Vijayadasaru(1682-1755),  a  poet-saint who is an incarnation of maharshi Bhrigu is said to have performed a great penance here.  It is said that the renowned poet-saint Sri Gopaladasaru has taken ankitha here.It is popularly known that Sri Gopaladasaru has given lifespan to Sri Jagannathadasaru,  another poet-saint,  who composed 'Sri Harikathamrithasara'.  Adoni is the native place of Sri panganama thimmannadasaru who is highly spiritual with dispassion.  Adoni is the birth place of Sri Venkannapantharu who became minister to the Nawab of Adoni by the grace of Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamiji(1595-1671) of Mantralayam,  which is located on the bank of the river Thungabhadra.  He is responsible for the construction and development of Mantralayam mutt and the surrounding area.  It is well-known that Siddimasood khan,  Nawab of Adoni has donated the village 'Manchala'(Mantralayam) to Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamiji with full devotion after having realized His greatness.
Mythologically,  in Krithayuga,  Adoni is known as 'kayadupura' named after the queen Kayadu,  wife of Raja Hiranyakasyapu and mother of Prahladaraja.  In Tretayuga,  it is known as 'Dandakaranya',  a place where 'Ramajala' (Spring),  is known to have formed with the use of arrows during the exile of Sri Rama.  In Dwaparayuga,  it is known as 'Yadupura',  during the reign of  Yuyudhaana (Sathyaki),  son of Maharaja Sathyaka,  a descedent of Vrishni dynasty' which is a sub-division of Yadu dynasty.  Later on it is called as 'Yadava avani',  Adavani.  Now it has become 'Adoni'.

Historically,  Adoni was developed in the name of Vengalamba,  the second daughter of Sri Krishnadevaraya (1509-1629),  the famous emperor of the Vijayanagara Kingdom.  She is the wife of Thirumalaraya.  During the reign of Srikrishnadevaraya,  there was Gold market (Shroff) in the heart of Adoni town.  It is a very holy place as the great sages like Vasishta and Kashyapa  passed through this way and surrounded by many prominet Maruthi temples like Mangaraya,  Ranamandala etc.

Sri Vyasarajaru
In Vengalapura,  the installation of the Hanuman idol took place five centuries ago,  on the day of Vijayadasami by Guru Sri Vyasaraja (1460-1539),  the previous avatar of Sri Guru Raghavendraswamiji of Mantralayam.  Vyasaraya was the rajaguru for Sri Krishnadevaraya. The seer saved Sri Krishnadevaraya  protected the entire kingdom during the 'Kuhu Yoga' period.

Vengalapura Hanuman temple is the first and foremost temple built among all other temples in Adoni.  Here,  The idol looks powerful and very attractive with much Godliness in appearance.  The Rajagopuram is adorned with beautiful sculptures from Ramayan.  The blessing idols of Srinivasa along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi are also installed inside the temple.

Lord Hanuman is 5ft tall with Sikha on the head,  holding Sankha (Conch),  Chakra in hands,  wearing Yagnopaveetha and Koupeena.  He is adorned with Dwadasanama and a bell in the tail.  The raised right hand with that tail over it and the left hand on the waist indicates the assurance of protection to the devotees

One can have His blessings and the divine grace by worshipping this deity,  'Vehgalapuradheesa' who has kept his left foot forward indicating the destruction of all the evil forces and the victory.
