 Sri MANGARAAYA

Sri Mangaraya, is the Lord Hanuman who is the previous avatar of Sri Madhwacharya (1238-1317CE),  also known as Ananda tirtha and Poorna Pragna.

Adoni is such a holy place where the great saints like Sri Vyasaraja Gurusarvabhowma, the previous avatar of Sri Raghavendra swamiji of Mantralayam and the sages like Vasishta and Kasyapa have passed through .  It is well-known that the great Poet-saint Sri Vijayadasa has taken the Chathurmasa diksha here for seven years.  It is said that the formation of the spring 'Ramajala' with arrows during the exile of Sri Rama has happened in Adoni.

Legends say that Ramaraya,  the elder son-in-law of  Srikrishnadevaraya has constructed the temple's mandap and the Rajagopuram.  The Dhwajastambha is adorned with Gandabherunda, two headed mythological bird which is the royal emblem of the Vijayanagara empire.  Previously there was a temple,  'Vajranjaneya' behind the Mangaraya temple.

The inscriptional evidence says that on 14-11-1746,  the auspicious day of Hanumadvratha,  margasira shuddha triodasi,  friday Sri Gopaladasaru, previously known as Bhagannadasaru with ankitha name 'Venkatakrishna' has obtained ankitha as 'Sri Gopalavittala' in Adoni.  It is well known that Sri Gopaladasaru who is an incarnation of  the Lord Ganapathi gave life span to Sri Vijayadasaru (poet-saint,  Chippagiri).

            Sri Gopaladasaru

In 15th century,  Sri Mangaraya idol is installed by Guru Sri Vyasaraja,   the author of  the great scriptures like Tharkathandava,  Nyayamritha,  and Thatparyachandrika.  Among all the idols installed by Vyasaraja this is a magnificent statue with glittering eyes and glorious looks.  we can see the impressions of Shankha,  Chakra on hands and a bell is tied to the tail.  He is holding a Gadha in left hand and facing His back to  the south preventing all the evil effects and diseases that come from south direction.  His right hand is in Abhayamudra(sign of protection),  blessing all the devotees.  It is a stauch belief that the devotees who worship this deity,  'Sri Mangaraaya' will be relieved from all the evil effects caused by the devils.
