There is a place called ChennaKeshavapura which is about 15 kms from Pavagada taluk in Tumkur district, karnataka. This is a place with a good nature and serene atmosphere. There is a temple here which is roughly about 150 years old. There is an old idol of CHENNAKESHAVA SWAMY (Hanuman) here in the temple.
There was a grand celebration of the completion of 150 years recently.
This idol is worshipped with great devotion. This idol was installed by SRI VYASARAJARU, a great pontiff who lived in sixteenth century. The deity here expects people to worship with the right tradition and observe austerity and any exception will not be tolerated by the deity. Lot of Hanuman devotees visit this temple during the time of RAMA NAVAMI, when a grand celebration takes place.
The history of this place goes back by few centuries when this place was called "Madakashira". There was a Hanuman idol here which was worshipped by a person called Bheemappa. Once Lord Hanuman appeared in his dream and told him that a temple be constructed for him. Bheemappa being a poor man didnt have any money or resources to construct a temple. After he got married to a lady called Venkamma, Bheemappa received lot of help from people and he constructed the Hanuman temple here and later the place got named to Chennakeshavapura which is named after the deity.
