'Koravara' is a small village in Bijapur district in Karnataka. There is a Hanuman temple in this village. Koravaresha is the name of the HANUMAN idol here. Koravaresha is believed to be the main temple here as well as a few surrounding villages.
The history of Koravaresha idol goes like this:
Sage VADIRAJARU is believed to be one of the greatest pontiffs in Madhwa community. Once when the sage was on pilgrimage, he happened to pass through the village of Koravara. Sage VADIRAJARU aware that Lord RAM after his victory in Lanka, stayed at this place briefly on his way back to Ayodhya. While Sage VADIRAJARU was asleep on a night, Lord HANUMAN appeared in Sage's dream along with Sage AGASTYA. HANUMAN informed the sage to install an idol of HANUMAN that was already hidden inside a nearby rock in the village. Sage VADIRAJARU with the help of nearby villagers, unearthed the idol of HANUMAN that was hidden in a rock and then installed the idol at the village Koravara on the day of Pratipada of Chaitra masa. The devotees flock from and around the village to view the idol of HANUMAN. There is a Shiva Linga also present near the kitchen inside temple premises.
Grand celebrations are observed in Chaitra masa in this temple starting from Pratipada till Hanuman Jayanti. There is a family in this village that gifts footwear to the Idol every two years. It is believed that this footwear gets muddy and dusty quite often.
It is believed that Koravaresha visits Sage AGASTYA ashram using that gifted footwear. It is a temple worth visiting. The pooja celebration for Koravaresha happens every day with great devotion and it attracts a lot of devotees from around the village.
