This temple is located in Jayanagara Naulageri village of Hosanagara Taluk of Shimoga district in Karnataka state. The architectural beauty of this idol is excellent which is carved in a single black stone (Krishna Shila). This is an ancient temple said to be 1300 years old.

It is said that during Tretayuga when Lord Sri Rama performed the Ashwamedha Yaga, a horse was released to wander for one year.  Then a devotee of Lord Shiva by name Veeramani had captured that horse and challenged the warriors accompanying it. Then Lord Hanuman fought with Veeramani. In that battle, King Veeramani was defeated and killed by Lord Hanuman. Later Lord Hanuman flew high up in the sky towards the Himalayas and brought the 'Sanjeevani' (the powerful herb which could revive a dead person. This is the holy place where Lord Hanuman gave life to King Veeramani.

Many devotees visit this 'Viraata Mukhyaprana' temple and perform puja and seva activities to the Lord Anjaneya.

Jambavantha cave

Jambavantha cave:  It is located in Gujarat state,  near the famous pilgrim center 'Dwaraka',  on the way to Porbandar city,  which is also known as 'Sudhama puri' mythologically.  Porbandar city is the birth place of Mahatma Gandhiji.
This cave is in the basement.  There is power supply inside the cave.  It is cool and pleasant inside the cave. One can notice a painting of Sri Krishna, Jambavathi, Jambavantha holding the Shyamantaka mani in hand. There is a 'Shivalinga' in the corner of the cave which is said to have worshipped by Jambavantha.  Jambavantha is very wise and pious devotee of Lord Sri Rama.
Legend:

The marriages of Jambavati and Satyabhama to Krishna are closely linked to the story of Shyamantaka mani, the precious diamond stone which is as mentioned in the Vishnu Purana and the Bhagavata Purana.  This precious stone originally belonged to the Sun god .  Sun god pleased with his devotee the Yadava king, Satrajit, gave him the sparkling diamond as a gift.  When Satrajit returned to Krishna's capital Dwarka with the jewel,  people mistook him for Sun god because of his dazzling glory.  Krishna asked him to present the jewel to Ugrasena,  the king of Mathura and Krishna's grandfather.  But Satrajit refused to give it.

Subsequently Satrajit presented Syamanthaka mani  to his brother Prasena,  who was a counsellor. Prasena who wore it,  while hunting in the forest  was attacked by a lion.  He was killed and the lion fled with the jewel.  Soon after, the lion who entered Jambavantha's mountain cave abode, was attacked by Jambavantha,  who killed it and took the mani.  Jambavantha gave it to his young son to play.

Following this incident,  it was rumoured that Krishna who had an eye on the Syamantaka jewel,  had murdered Prasena and had stolen the jewel.  Krishna, who got angry with this false allegation then went out with other Yadavas in search of Prasena,  to prove his innocence by finding the jewel.  He followed the route that Prasena had taken and discovered the corpse of Prasena.  Then they followed the trail of the lion and reached the cave,  where the dead lion was lying. Krishna told his army  to wait outside and he entered alone. Krishna saw a child playing with the priceless jewel. As Krishna approached Jambavantha's son,  the child cried aloud, alerting Jambavantha. The two then engaged in a furious combat for nearly a month or 21 days (as written in the Vishnu Purana).  As Jambavantha  gradually grew tired,  he realized that Krishna was none other than Vishnu,  the almighty God with whom he was fighting who was his benefactor Sri Rama in the Treta-yuga. In gratitude and devotion to Krishna who spared his life, Jambavantha gave up his fight and returned the precious stone to Krishna.  Jambavantha offered his maiden daughter Jambavati in marriage to Krishna along with the Shyamantaka jewel. Krishna accepted the proposal and married Jambavati. They then moved to Dwaraka.

Meanwhile Krishna's party had returned to kingdom presuming Krishna was dead,  every member of the royal family had assembled to mourn his death as he was missing for a month.  After returning to Dwaraka,  Krishna narrated the story of the recovery of the jewel and his marriage with Jambavati.  He then returned the jewel to Satrajit in the presence of Ugrasena.  Satrajit felt shy and ashamed to receive it as he had realized his wrong judgement and his greediness.  He then offered the precious jewel along with his daughter Satyabhama to Krishna .  Krishna married Satyabhama,  but refused the gem.

Raasanagi Balabheema

                                                                                                                                    Home       Back

There is a village called Rasanagi in Jevargi taluk in Gulbarga. This village is situated on the banks of River Bheema. This village is famous for its Bala Bheema temple. This temple is widely visited by people of Jevargi as well as by people of other parts of district and state. There are poojas and sevas happening every day in this temple as well as yearly festivals on special days meant for Lord Hanuman.

The story of this temple is as follows:

A few hundred years ago, some women used to wash clothes on the banks of River Bheema. While doing so, there was a pious woman who used to hear some man crying while she was washing clothes on a particular stone. This went on for several days and then she told about this to her husband. Her husband visited that stone next day and to his surprise even he heard the same cry coming out of that stone. He went and informed the village heads. On some night, Lord Hanuman appeared in the dream of one of the village heads and he ordered him to pull that stone from the river and have it installed with a temple around it in the village. The village heads followed the order and pulled the stone from the river.

The stone had Hanuman carved on it with a moustache of Bheema's. The idol was installed with pooja as per Vedic tradition.Temple was constructed and since then pooja is going on every day with lots of visitors visiting the temple. People believe their lives have got better since then. It is believed that this Hanuman takes care of the village's security in the night. There is a footwear that is offered to the Lord. It is seen that this footwear gets worn out every 3 years and will be replaced.

Though this village is small, the activities manifested by Lord Hanuman is enormous in this village. The number of devotees has been surging every year.

Kaiwara Hanuman

                                       Home                   Back

Kaiwara is a holy place in Karnataka which is about 70 kms of drive kms of drive from bangalore. This was popularly called as Ekachakra Nagara in Dwaparayuga. Mahabharata narrates the story that Pandavas spent some time here during their exile in forest.

During their stay in Ekachakra Nagara, Bhima fought with rakshas, Bakasura and killed him. This fight happened in a hill which is called as Kaiwara hills today. This hill is a must visit for people visiting Kaiwara. It takes about 45mins to go uphill from the foot of the hills. One can find rocks and tiny caves enroute to the top of the hills.

There is a small temple of Bhima on the top of the hills. One can have a darshan here and also enjoy a nice view of Kaiwara.

Kaiwara hills gives you a strong feel of a holy place with good spiritual vibrations. We were a little surprised to see two dogs climbing this hills. It didnt look normal for me to see these dogs climbing the hills. These dogs behaved very well and it looked like they knew this place before and there was nothing that these dogs could benefit from climbing the hills in terms of getting some food. I came to know that many others have experienced the same when they climbed this hills. I just thought of mentioning this because it was quite unnatural.

There are other temples in Kaiwara worth visiting like Amara Narayana temple, Kaiwara Taathaiyya (Saint supposed to have lived more than 200 years ago), Bheema Lingeshwara temple.

BAHE-BORAGAAV HANUMAN

                                                                                                                 HOME            BACK

'Bahe' town, which is also called as 'Bahe-Boragaav' is located on the banks of river 'Kishna' in 'Balave' taluk. It is on the national highway Pune-Bengluru in between Islampur and Kuda.

An island called 'Ramalinga' is situated in the middle of the river 'Bahe'. There we can find an ancient temple of Lord Sri Rama. Inside the temple, there is a Sivalinga on the opposite side of Sri Rama. The Hanuman idol is installed in the area behind the temple of Lord Sri Rama. This idol is very magnificent and is in a standing posture of Bhima stretching both his hands to slow down the heavy flow of  Krishna river .  Historically, it is believed that this idol is installed by the Saint guru Sri Samartha Ramadasa in the year 1573A.D and 1652 B.C.

Legend says that  Lord Sri Rama along with wife Sita and brother Lakshmana stayed here for a while on their way back to Ayodhya after killing the demon Ravana. Then Rama and Lakshmana went to take bath in Krishna river. After taking bath, Sri Rama worshipped the Shivalinga in Krishna river. Then the river started to flow in full swing with joy. Seeing this, Lord Anjaneya controls the river to flow peacefully. As a result  of this,a pool which is an island is formed. This river is bifurcated  due to the obstruction of Bhima's shoulders and gets united into a single stream after flowing for a short distance . Hence this place is called as 'Bahe'(shoulders).

Having known the historical importance of this 'Bahe' town, His Holiness Shri Samartha Ramadasa decided to install Lord Anjaneya idol here. He told that there should be a Hanuman temple where Lord Sri Rama stayed for sometime.

This is one among the 11 Hanuman temples established by the Saint reformer Sri Samartha Ramadasa, saint-guru of  Maharashtra king Sri Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.During the period before installing this Hanuman idol, Sri Samartha Ramadasa  composed the famous hymns 'Bhimarupa' and 'Sankatanaasana Maruti'.

A large span bridge is built across the Krishna river. There is a reservoir towards west of the Krishna river. This Hanuman temple is located on a rocky island. Several samadhis can also be seen here. There is a description of this holy place in 'Krishna Mahatmya'.In rainy season it is very difficult to travel to this island. So the temple priests stay here in nights during that time.

Sri Madhwanjaneya

                                                          Home        Back

Madhwanjaneya swamy temple is located about 7 kms north of Davanagere in a place called Kadalabalu. This temple is frequently visited by lot of people from Karnataka as well as neighbouring states.

The idol in this temple is of Lord Hanuman. This is an idol that is naturally formed in SALAGRAMA stone. The uniqueness of this idol is that this idol when observed very closely has HANUMA, BHEEMA and MADHWA avatars of Lord Hanuman. Also one can see imprints of Lord RAM, LORD KRISHNA and LORD VEDAVYASA in this idol.

This idol was excavated about 500 years ago when people found a strange incident. A cow used to go regularly near a snake pit and produce milk over it. Anxious people excavated the snake pit to find out more about the snake pit out of curiosity. To people's surprise, there was a idol of Lord Hanuman in the snake pit.

That idol was installed in the village and a temple was built around it under the administration of Dewan Poornaiah, who happened to be the minister of Mysore kingdom in those days. Later the temple was developed was various pontiffs of Madhwa community. Swamy SUSHAMEENDRA TEERTHA of Raghavendra Swamy Mutt constructed a pushkarni in the temple in 2006. A Rathotsava is organized every year on the day of Madhwa Navami. Today the temple is well developed and worth visiting to seek the blessings of Lord Hanuman.

People who have visited this temple have realised lot of auspicious things happening to them.

Long back,  There was a village in north Karnataka by name 'Laadlapura'. Once, the head of the village got a dream in which Lord Hanuman informed that He is present under a black stone which is used by the local dhobis for washing clothes on the banks of the river 'Bheema' flowing nearby the village. He ordered him to stop using the stone for that purpose and install it in a proper place. Next day, the village head got surprised of his dream and came to the river 'Bheema'  where not only dhobis wash clothes and also people of that village came there for drinking water. The village head assembled all of them and nformed them about his previous night's dream. Then they coopearated with him in searching the Lord Hanuman idol beneath the black stone. As a great surprise, they found a beautifully carved Lord Hanuman idol under that stone. They took the idol out and placed inside a bullock cart.

With great devotion and joyful procession, they were coming to their village. But on the way, one of the wheel of that cart had got stuck. All their efforts to pull the cart have failed. They brought another cart with four energetic bulls and tried to move forward. But in vain. That night of Kartika bahula amavasya, the village head along with his followers stayed there. Again, he got another dream in which Lord Hanuman gave him a written note and asked to install Him in the nearby village called 'Konchura' as it is a place where Lord Sri Rama and also the great sage Vedavyas have performed 'Yagna' ( a ritual done infront of the sacred fire). The existence of Sri Rudradeva temple is the evidence for this. It is such a holy place where 33 crore angels are residing. So it is equal to 'Badari kshetra'. Lord Hanuman ordered to install Him in that holy place and be called as 'Konchuresha'.

The next day morning, all of them took holy bath in river Bheema. At that time, the great saint His Holiness Sri Jayateertharu, disciple of His Holiness Sri Akshobhyateertharu was present there on the banks of Bheema river doing his daily rituals. Having come to know everything with his divine power, he  installed Lord Hanuman in Konchur and called Him 'Konchuresha'.

This idol is 5 and 1/2 ft tall with magnificent and beautiful look. It is said to have been installed during 1365A.D -1388 A.D by the great saint Sri Jayateertharu, popularly known as 'Teekaacharyaru'.

 Location

This holy kshetra is located in between the Kalburgi district of Karnataka and Yaadagiri near Hyderabad. To reach this holy place, if you are coming from Yaadagiri you have to travel by train from Yaadagiri to Naaravala. From there you have to go by road in a taxi. If you are coming from Kalburgi, you have to travel by train upto Vaadi. From there, take a taxi to go by road to reach this temple.
